It is well known to all of us that agriculture is the backbone of our country. Out of the total population 85% is engaged in agricultural activities but with inadequate production. Because of such low production capacity our farmers are vulnerable to famine and drought and as a result have become dependent on food aid. Such cyclical phenomenon happens in Ethiopia.In recent years government has spent substantial amount of foreign currency to import wheat to offset the shortage. Ethiopia has fertile agricultural land, untapped water resources, rivers and underground water, and favorable climate that suits for irrigation based agriculture.
